Since GX6605S boards are budget-focused, I wanted to see how their software actually handles HD channel decoding rather than just standard definition free-to-air content.
Software builds with proper H.264/MPEG-4 decoding support handled most HD PowerVu and free-to-air HD channels without visible stutter, even on entry-level boards. Where things fell apart was with higher-bitrate H.265/HEVC streams; only the more recent firmware versions handle these reliably, and older dumps often show blocky artifacts or fail to lock the channel entirely.
Audio sync was generally solid across the builds tested, with only minor, easily-correctable drift on a couple of channels after long playback sessions.
If HD viewing is a priority, it’s worth checking your specific board’s decoder capabilities before assuming any GX6605S software update will magically add HEVC support — some hardware revisions simply aren’t built for it.
Verdict: Solid HD performance on standard H.264 content; HEVC support is hit-or-miss and depends heavily on both hardware revision and firmware version.
