Blind scan is supposed to take the guesswork out of finding channels on a new satellite, so I ran it across several GX6605S firmware versions to see how reliable it actually is.
On strong, well-aligned dishes, blind scan consistently picked up the major transponders and populated channel lists quickly, usually within two to three minutes per satellite. Weaker signal conditions told a different story — scans took noticeably longer and occasionally missed low-power transponders that a manual scan with exact parameters caught easily.
Newer firmware builds handled DVB-S2X transponders better than older ones, which struggled or returned blank entries on some of the newer broadcast standards.
One practical tip: running blind scan twice back-to-back sometimes picked up a handful of transponders missed on the first pass, suggesting the tuner needs a moment to fully settle before scanning kicks in properly.
Verdict: Reliable enough for general use on a properly aligned dish, but don’t treat a single blind scan as the final word — a second pass or manual entry can fill in the gaps.
